David N. DeRoberts was admitted to practice in Ohio in 1995 and in Illinois in 2003.  Since 2006, his practice has focused primarily on office and shopping center leasing, first as Assistant General Counsel at General Growth Properties in Chicago and later at Kite Realty Group in Indianapolis where, in addition to leasing, his responsibilities included defaults, negotiated terminations, evictions, collections, litigation management, vendor contracts, and issues related to real property asset management and operations.  Since returning to private practice, he has represented local and national office and retail landlords and tenants in leasing matters and related litigation/dispute resolution, sales/purchases of residential and commercial properties.  He has significant experience in resolving real estate title issues and boundary disputes.  

 

In addition to real estate, he represents clients in general business matters, contract negotiation, creditor’s rights matters, evictions, traffic and misdemeanor cases, and general litigation/dispute resolution.  From 1998 to 2005, he facilitated §1031 exchanges of real and personal property for First American Title in Cleveland and JP Morgan Chase in Chicago where he authored a booklet entitled Exchanges of Property under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code: A Guide for the Practitioner, and was a national lecturer on the topic.  

 

He graduated magna cum laude from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1994.  He has presented CLE seminars on §1031 exchanges, leasing and property management issues,  and a variety of other topics in more than 15 states and has served as an adjunct faculty member at Cleveland-Marshall, Hondros College, and the Real Estate Center at DePaul University.
