EXPERIENCE:
Shawn’s practice is focused in the areas of construction, insurance, business, commercial and employment related litigation. In her litigation practice, Shawn has experience with representing commercial and individual clients in Ohio state courts, Ohio appellate courts, the U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. Local school districts, multi-million-dollar construction companies, medical device manufacturers, and trucking companies have utilized Shawn’s legal expertise to and out of the courtroom to limit their exposure to unjustified claims and allegations.
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY:
Shawn received a BA in Criminal Justice with honors from Ohio Northern University in 1990. She then attended the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University for her MPA, while serving as a graduate and research assistant in 1991. Shawn later attended the Cleveland State University College of Law and received her JD in 1998 and was admitted to the Ohio bar that same year. Shawn started her career with the professional liability firm of Rogers & Co., LPA and focused on the practice of errors and omissions litigation, as well as director’s and officer’s litigation. She then joined the firm of Davis & Young and spent the next several years litigating insurance defense cases that ranged from personal injury to catastrophic loss, including wrongful death claims. Shawn was also the complex commercial claims litigation counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Prior to joining AGH, Shawn was a business, real estate and commercial litigation attorney for the firm of Gertsburg Licata.
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS AND AFFILIATIONS:
Shawn is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cuyahoga County Bar Association. She is also a member of the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators.
CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS AND AFFILIATIONS:
As a twenty plus year resident of the City of Strongsville, Ohio, Shawn is an active member of the community. She served on numerous school district and parent committees, participated in the building and maintenance of local playgrounds and parks, and organized fundraisers for various sporting and school-related events. She previously served as the secretary for the Stillbrooke Estates Homeowners Association. Shawn is a prior board member of the New Life-New Hope Foundation, which raised funds and awareness regarding domestic violence. Shawn currently serves as the secretary of the board of directors for Primary Purpose Center, a non-profit organization that provides supportive recovery housing to men and women in Lorain County, Ohio.
